Back when rumors regarding the Nintendo Switch Lite started circulating, it was being said that another model was also in the works. According to sources, this new model will be released this year.

According to DigiTimes, a new Nintendo Switch model is going to be released in mid-2020, with production starting in the first quarter of the year.

It’s not exactly clear if this is going a brand new model or a minor hardware revision, like the one with better battery life released last year, but it’s more likely that it will be a brand new model may be the rumored Pro model.

The Nintendo Switch Pro model is supposed to come with a larger screen and likely higher resolution support.

Improved hardware could also lead to better performance for existing games, which would benefit some of them greatly, like Zelda Breath of the Wild and some other demanding multiplatform games, like The Witcher 3.

Better hardware would make other ports more feasible, like the rumored Red Dead Redemption 2 port.

As of now, Nintendo has yet to say anything regarding a new Switch model, so we have to take everything with a grain of salt until an official announcement comes in.

A Pro model would be a welcome addition, but with so many consoles having been sold already, it is difficult to predict how much of an impact it would have. Only time will tell if this new model indeed gets released.
