Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4 has brought a load of new features, liquid chrome locations, and 2 brand new weapons. Some weapons from the previous season have been vaulted but this season has introduced a couple of unique weapons to replace them: the EvoChrome weapons. These new weapons have a unique way of upgrading to higher rarities. Find out below how to upgrade EvoChrome weapons in Fortnite.
Upgrading EvoChrome Weapons in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4
The new chrome-themed weapons are the EvoChrome Shotgun and the EvoChrome Burst Rifle. They are unique to Chapter 3 Season 4, and have arrived with the introduction of the chrome locations:
- Cloudy Condos
- Shimmering Shrine
- Herald’s Sanctum
- Lustrous Lagoon
Found at these shiny new locations are the chrome chests. These metallic chests are only found at these named locations, but can also be created by throwing a Chrome Splash at an ordinary chest them before opening.
Along with a few regular items, one EvoChrome weapon will be dropped from a chrome chest: the EvoChrome Shotgun or an EvoChrome Burst Rifle. These come out of chests in the uncommon rarity (green) and can be upgraded (or evolved) by the player. EvoChrome weapons can also be found as floor loot around the island.

To evolve/upgrade an EvoChrome weapon you must deal damage to an opponent (including Wolves or Herald) until the upgrade meter fills. This meter is found beneath where you see how much ammo you have.
When the meter is full you receive a prompt to press a button and ‘evolve‘ the EvoChrome weapon you are holding. They can be upgraded all the way to Legendary (gold), and each evolution takes more opponent damage to fill the meter.
