Just How Scary is Dead Space - Answered

Here are all the Dead Space games, ranked from worst to best based on different parameters, including critical response and our personal experience.

5. Dead Space Ignition (2010)

A spin-off in the Dead Space franchise, Ignition is a prequel to Dead Space 2. This action puzzle that we didn’t ask for was released in 2010 to hype up the subsequent release of Dead Space 2 in 2011.

It is a tower defense game where you solve different puzzles and progress through to learn what happened in the story between the events of Dead Space and Dead Space 2.

Instead of playing Dead Space Ignition, however, we recommend players simply watch the anime movie Dead Space Aftermath

4. Dead Space Extraction (2009)

Dead Space Extraction is a rail shooter released for PlayStation 3 and Wii, where players could experience using motion controllers. The story is set before the events of the original Dead Space and covers the tragedy that occurred on Aegis-7 and the USG Ishimura before the arrival of Isaac and his team.

We recommend playing Dead Space Extraction, as it fills some plot points that help you better understand the story of the franchise.

3. Dead Space 3 (2013)

Dead Space 3 takes place after the events of Dead Space 2. Unlike its predecessor, it shifted away from its horror roots into a more action-based game, adding companions and even an arsenal that can make you overpowered with some tweaking.

The story of Dead Space 3 can also fall a bit short at times, and the game’s emphasis on co-op play removed some of the elements that helped crown Dead Space as one of the best survival horror franchises out there.

2. Dead Space 2 (2011)

Dead Space 2 is one of the best games in the Dead Space franchise. It manages to stand firmly on the path paved by its predecessor, Dead Space, while adding new elements that made the franchise stronger.

1. Dead Space (2008) / Dead Space Remake (2023)

Dead Space is one of the best horror games to ever release, if not the best, and the recent remake has taken it to new heights. If it needed any help to get the first spot, this would be it.

Isaac’s journey into the USG Ishimura is filled with a variety of unique enemies that will often ambush you. The creepy creature noises, the gloomy music, and the feeling of isolation and dread are among the factors that made it such a horrifying experience.

To this date, Dead Space has set the industry standard for sci-fi horror so high that even good games like The Callisto Protocol fail in comparison. And that is why it remains as number one on this list.

That concludes our guide on all Dead Space games ranked.

Dead Space Remake is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For more guides, news, features, and other content on Dead Space Remake, check out our dedicated section.
