Who is Quirrel in Hollow Knight? – Character Guide

Quirrel is one of the many fascinating characters in Hollow Knight, about whom many players don’t know much. He not only helps you with a certain boss battle but plays a significant role in the game’s story. Seeing that, many players want to learn more about Quirrel, about who he is, his past, how the Knight meets him, and so on. 

Everything about Quirrel in Hollow Knight

Quirrel is an NPC in Hollow Knight whom you meet throughout your journey in Hallownest. He used to be an apprentice of Monomon, the chief researcher and teacher of Hollownest. 

Quirrel was entrusted with Monomon’s mask that was used to protect her from harm. As one of the three Dreamers, Monomon played a major role in sealing the Hollow Knight. 

But in the end, when our hero awakens and the events of the game started to unfold, Quirrel lost much of his memories with only reminiscence of his master’s calling, to remove the protection on Monomon so Knight can kill her. 

You first encounter Quirrel at the Temple of Black Egg. Next, you find him at Lake of Unn, then Queen Station, and so on. After he removes Monomon’s seal, your final encounter with Quirrel will happen at Blue Lake.

Upon entering Howling Cliffs, Quirrel even has an encounter with Hornet, the princess protector of the Hollownest ruins, who is also the protagonist of the next Hollow Knight game, Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Though seeing Monomon’s mask on Quirrel’s head, Hornet lets him pass. And eventually, he helps you take down Monomon.
