Pokemon Legends: Arceus was released at the end of January 2022 and is a prequel to Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. The action RPG is slightly different to the previous games in the Pokemon series as it uses an open-world gameplay, and encourages players to explore the land to discover and catch wild Pokemon.

Players are given the role of a field researcher, in charge of recording all the Pokemon in the Hisui Region (which becomes the Sinnoh Region in the future). The aim of the game is to complete the Pokedex, and to do this, the entire land must be explored and all Pokemon must be recorded. There are 265 different species of Pokemon to be discovered, including different forms.
Completing the Pokedex Tasks
The game keeps it interesting and engaging for players, and encourages them to work towards completing the Pokedex without it feeling like a repetitive grind. The mechanics of discovering, battling, and catching Pokemon is fresh and new, and not every Pokemon requires battling in order to capture them. Some Pokedex entries require the player to complete unique tasks, only available once you have caught a specific Pokemon. Until that task is unlocked, it will say “Method Unknown.”

When the task says “Method Unknown,” this just means the player has not yet met the NPC who reveals information needed, or they have not yet found the Pokemon this task relates to. This is another great thing about Pokemon Legends: Arceus—it keeps the player engaged by making them really work for all the information they need.
So if your Pokedex tasks says “Method Unknown,” just keep exploring the Hisui Region until you meet the right NPC or Pokemon. Good luck, and happy exploring!
