Pokemon Legends: Arceus does not make filling out the Pokedex easy for you in any way, at least when compared to previous entries in the Pokemon franchise. Before, all you had to do was capture a certain Pokemon and you would have its Pokedex entry filled out.
In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, if you simply see and catch a Pokemon, it will not consider as having that Pokemon’s Pokedex entry completed. In order to fully complete a Pokedex entry, you need to earn ten points in a Pokemon’s Research Level.
To earn these points, you need to complete various tasks with regards to the Pokemon at hand in the Pokedex entry. The number of times you encounter a Pokemon, the kinds of moves you have seen it use in battle, whether you’ve caught it and how many times you’ve caught it, and more, all contribute to improving that certain Pokedex entry’s Research Level.
What Happens When You Complete a Pokedex Entry in Pokemon Legends: Arceus?
So let’s say you’ve gotten ten points into a certain Pokemon’s Research Level for its Pokedex entry, which means you’ve completed a Pokedex entry. Surely there must be a lot of rewards for all of your hard work, right?
Well, not quite. The only single benefit you gain from completing Pokedex entries is that you will see an increase in your Research Rank. When the trainer’s Research Rank grows, you will be able to travel to new areas and make further progress into the game.
A basic reward, but nothing to write home about. You’ve gotta be a true completionist in order to fully complete every Pokedex entry in the game. If that’s you, then good luck, and Godspeed!
