Star Ocean First Departure R New Features Detailed

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

The first entry in the Star Ocean series was released many years ago on the SNES console, and soon enough, the game will come back to Nintendo hardware thanks to Star Ocean First Departure R, a port of the remake of the first Star Ocean game released on PlayStation Portable a few years back.

Recently, Square Enix confirmed that the game will be shown at this year’s edition of the Tokyo Game Show, which is going to be held next month.

The Japanese publisher also confirmed that Star Ocean First Departure R will come with some new features not seen in the PSP remake, such as full voice acting, with all voice actors coming back to reprise their role, and new artwork, which can be switched with the original remake’s one if the player so desire.

For the rest, Star Ocean First Departure R will play exactly like the PSP release which, in turn, plays a lot like the second entry in the series.

The battle system has been improved considerably over the original SNES game, but it still retains some of the features that made it so fun, such as the ability to change equipped special attacks depending on the range, powerful magic spells that stop the action momentarily and so on.

Star Ocean First Departure R will be released on a yet to be confirmed release date on Nintendo Switch. The game’s Western release has also been confirmed, but it has yet to be dated as well.
