Overwatch Nintendo Switch Looks Great In New Footage

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Overwatch is getting released very soon on Nintendo Switch, and many are wondering how will this version of the game look and run on Nintendo’s console, which is not as powerful as the other consoles. Things are looking good, however, and it seems like those getting the game this month will be able to experience it in a very good way.

New Overwatch Nintendo Switch footage emerged online today thanks to GameSpot. While the game runs only at 30 FPS, things look smooth nonetheless.

Overwatch principal game producer Wea Yanagi recently talked about the Nintendo Switch port’s frame rate and resolution, stating that the team aimed to have an authentic experience that could run as well as it could on the console’s weaker hardware.

So, it runs at 30fps, docked at 900p and un-docked at 720p, and it runs really smoothly. I think when you play it, and you get your hands on it, you just go, yeah I’m playing Overwatch.

Sadly, the fact that the game is running at 30 FPS only may become an obstacle in implementing full cross-platform play with the other versions of the game, as they run at 60 FPS. Blizzard may still be able to work some magic, but things don’t look too good on this front for now.

Still, Overwatch on Nintendo Switch wasn’t exactly expected, so those who only wish to play the game on the go will definitely find this version of the game more than acceptable.

Overwatch releases on Nintendo Switch on October 15th worldwide. The game is also available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
