How to Fix Destiny 2 Character Deletion Bug

There is no denying that Destiny 2 is one of the many notorious live service games that often face many bugs and issues. As a game, it is a masterpiece, but that doesn’t make it a glitch-free title. And recently, some players on social platforms shared a new bug where Destiny 2 characters get automatically deleted when they try to log into the game.

Sadly, it seems like you can’t fix the Destiny 2 character deletion bug by yourself in the game. But the solution is simple anyway. All you need to do is contact Bungie on Twitter (via the Bungie Help handle), Reddit, or other social platforms and share the required information with them. 

They will eventually contact you as soon as possible and help you recover your character from the backend.

Alternatively, you can also try to restart your PC, log into Destiny 2 and check if the character is back before contacting the team. 

Since we didn’t face the issues ourselves, we couldn’t confirm whether standard troubleshooting steps were working. But, as per the community and the Reddit user u/Zzephiris, basic fixes are not working.

That being said, at the time writing this article, Bungie had not yet officially acknowledged the issue. So it is hard to estimate how many players were affected by this character deletion bug on Destiny 2.

Nonetheless, even if your characters did get deleted because of the bug, you don’t need to worry much about them: Destiny 2 is a live-service game, and the devs can easily restore the character from a backup. Live-service games do not use hard saves, like offline video games do.

So, if that bug is happening to you, just contact Bungie and share the issue with them, and they will fix it. We recommend players contact Bungie via Twitter, because the Bungie Twitter handle response is speedy and they often resolve the issue at the earliest.
