There’s a handful of hard-to-beat bosses you’ll come across in Elden Ring, some of which are optional ones that you can decide to battle or simply neglect and move on.

The Grave Warden Duelist one of them and you can find this boss in the Murkwater Catacombs dungeon. If you head to the north of the Murkwater Cave you can find Grave Warden Duelist in the ravine to the north of Dragon-Burnt Ruins.

How to defeat the Grave Warden in Elden Ring

The Grave Warden Duelist has two gigantic hammers with a chain attached to one of them that allows him perform large area-sweeping attacks and pulls during the encounter. He will use a series of hammer attacks at the start of the fight and then smash both hammers to the ground.

He can also follow up his first two attacks by two faster attacks. And lastly, he will try to turn the right hammer around and smash it into the ground to perform a dragging strike. During these attacks, you can simply get around the Duelist to deal him different small or quick attacks or even a backstab.

The Grave Warden Duelist might also stop using the hammers entirely and try to grab you. Once he grabs you, he’ll hold you up into the air and throw you in front of the Duelist. But you can evade this attack and even get the opportunity to backstab Jim afterwards.

Additionally, the Duelist may enter into a rage severally during battle, this can increase his overall damage to you. And you’ll notice this due to the red aura around it. Try to stay away during this rage by keeping your distance and waiting for it to pass.
