Similar to Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact 3rd, Honkai: Star Rail features a profusion of playable characters with different skill sets, passives, roles, and abilities. Team comps and strategically using a character’s abilities are the elements that will help you win fights.

But due to the limited enrollment into Honkai Star Rail closed beta, not many players are aware of the playable characters, their skills, which tier they belong to, and other such information. 

In this Honkai Star Rail character tier list, we have listed the playable characters under different tiers based on players’ feedback, characters’ abilities, and other such parameters. 

Note: This tier list is based on Honkai Star Rail closed beta. It will go through major changes shortly. 

Honkai Star Rail Character Tier List

Here is the character tier list of Honkai Star Rail based on players’ feedback from the game’s first closed beta testing.

S Tier Characters 

Here are the S Tier Characters in Honkai Star Rail.

Himeko 

• Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆
• Skill (100%/40% ATK, ST/AOE): Main target takes more damage.
• Special (120% ATK, All): Restores 10 energy per kill.
• Passive: Once all enemies are broken, deals 50% ATK to all enemies (2 turn CD).
• Field Ability: Creates field effect for 15s which grants +10% Fire damage against enemies for the first 2 turns when entering battle.

Bronya 

• Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆
• Skill (Ally): Removes 1 debuff, allows target to move next, and grants them +25% All Damage for 1 turn. After they move, grants them SPD+25 for 1 turn.
• Special (Team): All allies gain +30% ATK and Crit Damage for 2 turns.
• Passive: After using basic attack, next turn progress increases by 15%.
• Field Ability: All allies get ATK+15% for the first 2 turns.

Seele 

• Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆
• Skill (100% ATK, ST): Gives SPD+35 for 2 turns.
• Special (240% ATK, ST): Grants buff from passive.
• Passive: After defeating an enemy, get +40% damage buff for 1 turn and move again. Cannot be triggered again during the extra turn.
• Field Ability: Enter Stealth for 20s and first striking during Stealth grants buff from passive.

A Tier Characters 

Here are the A Tier Characters in Honkai Star Rail.

Gepard 

Gepard summons a giant ice crystal in front of the party, which grants all allies a shield that absorbs damage for three turns. The strength of the shield depends on Gepard’s DEF.

Welt 

• Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆
• Skill (30% ATK, RNG): Attacks 3 times, every hit has 50% chance to inflict SPD-20 for 2 turns.
• Special (48% ATK, All): Imprisons all enemies, delaying their next turn by 30% and causing them to take 20% more damage.
• Passive: When hitting a slowed target, perform an extra hit with 30% ATK.
• Field Ability: Creates field effect for 15s which slows enemy movement and Imprisons them when entering battle (Next turn delayed by 20% and take 10% more damage)

Clara

• Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆
• Skill (150% ATK, AOE): Attacks all marked enemies and removes their mark, deals 90% extra damage for every additional enemy.
• Special (Self): Reset number of counters, increases aggro, gain 15% damage reduction, and counters deal 25% extra damage. Lasts for 2 turns or until all counters have been used up.
• Passive: 15% damage reduction and can counter up to 3 times. When attacked, mark the offending enemy and have a 40% chance to counterattack, dealing 75% ATK as damage.
• Field Ability: Increases aggro for the first 2 turns.

Danheng

• Rarity: ☆☆☆☆
• Skill (120% ATK, ST): When critting, enemy SPD-20 for 2 turns.
• Special (216% ATK, ST): Deals 72% more damage if enemy is slowed.
• Passive: Crit Rate+15% against enemies with over 50% HP, next attack ignores 15% Wind RES after being targeted by an ally ability (2 turn CD).
• Field Ability: Self ATK+40% for the first 3 turns.

B Tier Characters 

Here are the B Tier Characters in Honkai Star Rail.

Asta 

• Rarity: ☆☆☆☆
• Skill (25% ATK, ST+RNG): After the initial ST attack, repeat 4 more times against random enemies.
• Special (Team): Allies’ next turn progress increases by 25% and Asta’s passive buff is granted to all allies for the next 2 turns.
• Passive: For every distinct enemy hit, gain 1 stack, or 2 stacks if they are weak to Fire (6 stacks max). Each stack grants ATK+6%.
• Field Ability: Deals 50% ATK to all enemies.

Natasha 

• Rarity: ☆☆☆☆
• Skill (12% HP, Ally): Also grants regeneration (9% HP scaling) for 2 turns.
• Special (15% HP, Team)
• Passive: Heals 25% more to allies under 30% HP.
• Field Ability: Weakens all enemies (-30% All Damage) for 1 turn.

Pela

• Rarity: ☆☆☆☆
• Skill (100% ATK, ST): Weakens target for 2 turns (-20% All Damage).
• Special (48% ATK, All): Inflicts DEF-30% and increases damage taken by armour by 30%.
• Passive: Gain 5 energy when attacking debuffed enemies.
• Field Ability: All enemies DEF-20% for the first 2 turns.

March 7th

• Rarity: ☆☆☆☆
• Skill (60% DEF, Ally): Also increases target’s aggro if they have over 50% HP.
• Special (90% ATK, All): 60% chance to Freeze enemies for 1 turn (Ice DoT based on 30% ATK).
• Passive: Ice RES+10% for all allies.
• Field Ability: Freeze random enemy for 1 turn (Ice DoT based on 50% ATK).

Hook

• Rarity: ☆☆☆☆
• Skill (120% ATK, ST): Burns target for 2 turns (Fire DoT based on 25% ATK).
• Special (240% ATK, ST): Enhances next use of skill to become AOE.
• Passive: When attacking a Burned target, perform extra hit with 50% ATK and gain 5 energy.
• Field Ability: Burns all enemies for 3 turns (Fire DoT based on 50% ATK).

C Tier Characters

Here are the C Tier Characters in Honkai Star Rail.

Main Character 

• Rarity: ☆☆☆☆
• Skill (63% ATK, AOE)
• Special (Self): Immediately take next turn, and +60% All Damage for 2 turns.
• Passive: ATK+12% for every broken enemy (2 stacks max).
• Field Ability: Heals 10% HP for all allies.

Sampo

• Rarity: ☆☆☆☆
• Skill (15% ATK, ST+RNG): After the initial ST attack, repeat 4 more times against random enemies. Every hit has a 50% chance to delay the enemy’s next turn by 5%.
• Special (96% ATK, AOE): Gives enemies DEF-20% for 2 turns.
• Passive: All attacks have a 65% chance to inflict Wind Shear for 3 turns (Stackable Wind DoT based on 25% ATK, 5 stacks max).
• Field Ability: Blind enemies for 10s.

Serval 

• Rarity: ☆☆☆☆
• Skill (60%/30% ATK, ST/AOE): Main target takes more damage, 80% chance to Shock enemies for 3 turns (Thunder DoT based on 40% ATK).
• Special (108% ATK, All): Extends duration of Shock by 2 turns.
• Passive: After attacking, deal 25% ATK damage to all Shocked enemies.
• Field Ability: Shocks all enemies for 3 turns (Thunder DoT based on 50% ATK)
