Genshin Impact 1.3 update is right around the corner and with that, we have a profusion of new content that is coming to the game in the form of new events, quests, playable characters, enemies, etc. Among the pool of new content and features coming to Genshin Impact with the version 1.3 update, there is an event called Wish Upon a Lantern that will reward the Genshin Impact community with One Billion free Primogems(split among all players).
In Genshin Impact 1.3 update preview page, we have the “Other Events” tab where players can spot two new upcoming events. The first one is Wish Upon a Lantern, and the second one is HoYoLAB Event: A Sea of Lights, which is a Genshin Impact‘s fan art competition currently underway.
According to Genshin Impact 1.3 update preview page, the Wish Upon a Lantern event will start from February 19, 2021, and in that event players will have to light five kinds of Xiao Lanterns. And, at the end of the event players can split the reward of one billion Primogems with other travelers.
In one of our previous articles, we tried to estimate How many players does Genshin Impact has, and how many players still play the game?. And, with the help of download records and pre-registration data, we estimated that Genshin Impact has more than 80 Million players(globally). But for the sake of reward distribution, let us assume Genshin Impact has around 100 million players.

With One billion Primogems split between 100 million Genshin Impact players, the final reward per person will be around 100 Primogems.
So, in the end, Genshin Impact’s Wish Upon a Lantern event one billion free Primogems reward is not that astonishing as it might look at first glance.
