For being such a unique game, it was baffling that Square Enix did not make a sequel to the game after its release on the Nintendo DS. It took the publisher over a decade to go back to the property and develop NEO: The World Ends with You, which is releasing in a few months on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Despite the long wait between the first game and its sequel, it seems like the future is bright for the franchise as a whole. Speaking with IGN, producer Tomohiko Hirano revealed that the development team aspires to make The World Ends With You a big series, and NEO: The World Ends with You and the anime series that is currently airing in Japan are big opportunities to expand the franchise further.

NEO: The World Ends with You launches on Nintendo Switch as well as on PlayStation 4 and PC on July 27th.
