This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Platform games used to be all the rage back in the day, but things eventually changed, and they became more of niche games. Things started changing again recently, with many indie developers offering some very good games for fans of classic series who haven’t had enough of jumping from one platform to another in search of secrets.

A brand new platform game called Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is now available on Nintendo Switch, and a new trailer has been released to mark the occasion. You can watch it right below.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is a 2.5D platform game developed by Playtonic. The team includes some former members of Rare, who contributed many years ago in making platform games popular with the Donkey Kong Country series, among others.

As such, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair plays a lot like an entry in the classic series.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair isn’t just a well-made and nostalgic platform game, but it also comes with some unique features that show how the team wanted the game to stand on its own.

In place of the classic overworld map, Playtonic added a Zelda-like overworld map to the game, complete with alternate paths, secrets, and items that are required for progression. These mechanics add quite a bit to the game and make it extremely engaging.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is now available worldwide on Nintendo Switch as well as on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
