ARK Survival Evolved has a lot of maps for you to explore, ranging from the beginner friendly to the more difficult ones with challenging enemies, as well as rare items to find. One of the most unique maps is Aberration, where the land has been severely damaged by radiation poisoning, forcing the player to mainly operate underground. The chemicals have forced intense mutations onto the inhabitants of this map, leading to the development of new unusual creatures waiting to be discovered by you. One of the most important resources you’ll need for this map is obsidian, necessary for crafting certain items. Getting it here can be tricky, but it isn’t if you know where to look. This is where to find Obsidian easily in ARK: Survival Evolved Aberration.
The Best Place To Find Obsidian

To have the best chance of collecting a decent amount of Obsidian, you have to go to the surface. Because of the nature of this map, it is impossible to explore surface during the day. The area’s boiling temperature makes it inhospitable for people to explore by day, but when the sun sets, the climate drops, making it finally reachable. Unfortunately, you aren’t the only one taking advantage of this. Dangerous creatures like the Reapers prowl the surface at night, so you’ll want to be as prepared as you possibly can.
How To Get To The Surface In Aberration
To leave the underground, you’ll need to have certain objects to be able to move up. You can use a ravager, a rock drake, climbing picks or zip lines for this.
The most abundant concentration of Obsidian is found in the structure in the middle of the map by the highest parts of it. When climbing, you’ll eventually see an area with a concentration of Obsidian veins sitting by an elevation formation that sticks out.
What To Make With Obsidian
The main purpose of collecting Obsidian is to make something called Polymer, a resource that you need in order to make certain special things. These are:
- Chain Bola
- Arthropluera Saddle
- Cannon Ball
- Artifact Pedestal
Having a direct knowledge of where to get Obsidian on the surface will mean that you spend less time wandering around and in turn run a smaller risk of finding danger.
