Summer is here and that means lots of outside activities, including playing Pokemon Go. Their most recent event is the 2023 Adventure Week, where your goal is to catch fossil Pokemon and complete the in-game quests. For those unfamiliar, fossil Pokemon are Pokemon from the original games that were usually not catchable by standard means. These were ancient Pokemon that went extinct, and you’d have to revive them from their fossils.

Fortunately, there’s no scientific necromancy in Pokemon Go. Adventure Week will feature Pokemon such as Kabuto, Anorith, and many others. If you’ve been playing, you might have noticed a ribbon next to the Pokemon in the Nearby screen. What is the ribbon in Pokemon Go? This is the Nearby Badge feature, explained.

To complete this event and get the offered rewards, you have to catch the specific fossil Pokemon. Each category is named after what the Pokemon’s fossil was originally called in the games.

  • Root and Claw – Lileep and Anorith – Reward: 100 stardust and a Pokemon encounter
  • Dome and Helix – Kabuto and Omanyte – Reward: 1000 stardust and a Pokemon encounter
  • Cover and Plume – Tirtouga and Archen – Reward: 2000 stardust and a Pokemon encounter
  • Skull and Armor – Cranidos and Shieldon – Reward: 2000 stardust and a Pokemon encounter

What The Ribbon Is For In Pokemon Go

In the Nearby area, you’ll see these Pokemon on the radar with a small ribbon next to their picture. This ribbon is to let you know that those Pokemon are specific to the ones in the event that you need to catch. This is because there are some fossil Pokemon spawning extra for the event but aren’t part of the rewards, such as Aerodactyl and Amaura. This is a good time to take advantage of that, as fossil Pokemon tend to be only found in eggs outside of events.

Collect your rewards and rare Pokemon now before the 2023 Adventure Week ends!
