Today, Nintendo revealed the Tetris 99 Maximus Cup Online event. Starting from March 8th until March 10th, all players winning first place in a match will see Tetris Maximus appear on the screen. By the end of the event, the top 999 players with the most Tetris Maximus will receive 999 My Nintendo Gold Points.

Tetris 99 is a unique take on modern Tetris. Each match features 99 players, and only the player that manages to survive last wins the match. Players can also attack their opponents, throwing garbage blocks their way when clearing lines.

While the Tetris 99 premise is extremely simple, the game features some interesting layers of depth regarding the opponents to attack. They can be chosen manually or let the game chose them for you by indicating whether you want to attack random players, those near KO, those with the most badges or those attacking you.

Tetris 99 is now available for free to all Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
