State of Survival

State of Survival Best Heroes for Beginners

Heroes in State of Survival make all the difference between victory and defeat. While managing your city is extremely important in the long term, if you cannot fend the zombies effectively, you are never going to make it far.

Starting out, State of Survival can feel overwhelming due to the many mechanics that power the game. Sure, everything is explained properly thanks to the great menu system, but you will end up feeling lost pretty easily if you do not pay attention. Even worse, you may end up spending some of the hard-to-find currency on the wrong hero, something that can potentially impede your growth as a player in the long run if you are not willing to invest real money in the game. So, making the right hero choice right from the start is extremely important not only for your progress but also to start having fun right from the very beginning.

Heroes in State of Survival are not only divided into three different rarity levels, but also in different Tiers. Heroes in higher Tiers are generally much better than those in the lower ones, but they are not available from the beginning of the game, as more tiers are unlocked only after a certain amount of in-game days have passed. As such, we are only going to focus on the Tier 1 characters that are available from the very beginning.

Among the 11 Tier 1 heroes, the ones you want to focus on right from the start are Sarge and Travis. Both can be obtained very easily, and they are extremely useful for some early-game activities. Sarge is particularly useful in both PvE and PVP thanks to his Turret skill that provides a very good 25% troop damage increase. Travis is also very good thanks to his Stamina reducing skill which reduces stamina cost by 20% per march, basically letting you do more killing and progress more quickly. Despite being both Tier 1 characters, they continue being very good even once higher Tiers are unlocked, so you can invest resources in them without having to worry about them going to waste.

As for other Heroes to focus on at the beginning of the game, it all depends on personal preference and play style. Eva, who is easily obtained, is the only Epic hero with the Siege specialization, so if you’re into raiding HQs for resources, she is a very good choice. Ghost, also easily obtained, is very good for PvP thanks to his Troop health increase skill and increased Gas gathering, which is very important to upgrade the headquarter as quickly as possible. Maddie & Frank and Nikola are also very good for PvE, but they can only be obtained from Ray’s Palace so they are not a particularly good choice, especially once you have unlocked higher Tiers. Accessing the Ray’s Palace services requires Biocaps, and you want to use them as sparingly as possible.
