Which Profession to Choose in Stardew Valley: Forester or Gatherer?

When you reach level 5 of your Foraging Skill in Stadew Valley, you can choose between the Forester or the Gatherer profession. The Forester profession allows you to obtain 25% more wood when chopping trees, stumps, and logs.

Meanwhile, the Gatherer profession increases your chances of obtaining a double harvest of foraged items. Later, when you reach Level 10, you can will get to choose a sub-profession or something like a specialization within the select profession.

If you had selected Forester, you could choose between the following:

  • Lumberjack: All trees have a chance to drop hardwood.
  • Tapper: Syrups worth 25% more.

On the other hand, if you selected Gatherer, you can choose between:

  • Botanist: Foraged items are always the highest quality.
  • Tracker: Location of forageable items revealed.

You need wood and hardwood for upgrades, but you can get them using normal means too. You don’t have to be an expert Lumberjack or Forester for it. On the flip side, choosing Gatherer gives you access to more resources which turns out to be even better when you select to be a Botanist.

Every item you forage is of the highest quality. Easy upgrades, crafting, and much more. So, the answer is to go for the Gatherer profession and then select Botanist.
