The answer to this question varies from player to player, but, in general terms, you could say that Dead Space is a terrifying game

Note: In this guide, we will discuss the recent Dead Space remake, not the original title released in 2008.

First, we need to answer the question: what makes a game scary? Audio, visuals, setting, story, jumpscares, isolation, dread, and vulnerability are among the many factors that can make a video game scary.

While some games rely only on the sound, a dark setting, and jumpscares to fit in the horror genre, Dead Space features it all—the true definition of how a horror game should be.

Dead Space manages to captivate the attention of players with its highly detailed visuals, to the point players don’t feel they are playing a game. The tense music filled with monsters’ screams, plus the moments where you think someone is moving in the air duct, or you hear voices around you, are things that make it scarier.

As for the Dead Space story and setting, both fit well with the Horror genre, and the game will make you realize how vulnerable you are while giving a sense of dread and isolation.

Dead Space is one of the scariest games available, if not the single scariest game. However, this changes if you are a veteran Dead Space player. Because veterans may not be that scared by the Necromorphs.

The game’s difficulty settings also play a significant role in making Dead Space a scary or walk-in-the-park experience. If you are playing the game in Story Mode, only a few Necromorphs can kill you, but you can kill them very easily, as they take increased damage. That is not the case for other difficulty levels, so make sure to pick the one that best suits your style.

That concludes our guide on how scary Dead Space is.
