Back in 2016, Anoushka, the part of the Supercell development team, disproved the rumours of servers shutdown and said in an official statement:
However, the support for Clash of Clans is ending for iPhone and Android users running lower than iOS 11 and Android 5.0. This came to light when the Clash of Clans team announced on their official blog.
Due to technical reasons beyond Supercell’s control, the developers are unfortunately forced to end support for all Apple and Android devices running on OS versions lower than iOS 11 and Android 5.0, respectively. Therefore, update to iOS version 11 / Android 5.0 (or higher) as soon as possible to keep playing COC.
