Inside the Backrooms is a creepy first-person adventure game where players must escape the titular otherworldly location. When you thought you’ve found a way out of the Backrooms, you’re faced with a puzzling elevator. Today, we’ll show you how to get the elevator working with our Inside the Backrooms: elevator code guide!
Inside the Backrooms: How to Get the Elevator Code
Once you’ve progressed a bit into Inside the Backrooms, you’ll come across an open elevator. The elevator seems to be out of service at first, as the buttons on the keypad don’t seem to react in any meaningful way.
In order to operate the elevator, you’ll need to input the correct code into the keypad. Don’t think you can just look up the code, as it is randomly generated in every game. Your elevator code will be different from ours!
If you want to figure this out on your own, step outside the elevator and turn to your right, and you should see a note on the ground. This note contains some hints that should clue you in on how to figure out the elevator code.
If you’re having trouble cracking the code, we’ll explain it to you. When you went to the elevator, you should have passed by eight pillars in a long corridor, with four on one side and four on the other.

First, look for the four pillars that have a hashtag on one side. On the other side of the pillar, there will be a number, from 1 to 4. This is the order of the numbers you’ll be using in the code.
Now, look at the other set of four pillars. One side will be blank, while the other side will contain a random number, from 0 to 9. These numbers are the actual numbers you’re going to punch into the keypad, and the position of the pillar corresponds to the position of the number in the code.
So, let’s say for example you see a hashtag pillar with 1 on the other side. Look at the pillar across from it, and look at the number—let’s say it’s 7. This means that the first number in the elevator code will be 7.
The elevator code is a four-digit number, so match up the remaining numbers, and you’ll get your code. It sounds a bit confusing at first, but once you see the whole setup with your own eyes, you’ll understand it better.
That concludes our guide on the elevator code in Inside the Backrooms. If you have any other questions regarding the code, let us know in the comments below!
