Like pretty much every game developed by Nintendo, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury supports all amiibo figures that have been released so far. For obvious reasons, the figures related to the Mario series offer the best benefits, but even all the others can be used to gain some nice bonuses that can help you complete a particularly difficult level or if you just wanna have some fun doing a few things that are not normally possible without scanning these figures.

So, how do you use amiibo in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury and what do you get for using them? Let us find out.

How To Use amiibo in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

amiibo can be used in both the main campaign and the Bowser’s Fury expansion, but the effect differs quite a bit, depending on the scanned figure. No matter what you are playing, all you have to do to scan an amiibo figure is press down on the left Joy-Con’s directional pad and then place any amiibo on top of the left analog stick. You will know that the procedure has been successful instantly, as you will receive power-ups and 1-Ups, depending on the figure you have scanned.

amiibo Effects in Bowser’s Fury

There are three amiibo figures that have some very special effects when used while playing Bowser’s Fury – Bowser Jr., Bowser and Cat Mario.

If you scan the Bowser Jr. amiibo, the character will unleash a special shockwave attack that will knock down any enemy in the vicinity and destroy any obstacle. This attack has a cooldown, so it can’t be spammed repeatedly.

If you scan any Bowser amiibo, you will summon Fury Bowser to your location. You can either fight him with the help of the Giga Bell, or you can just let him roam around to destroy enemies and obstacles.

If you scan the Cat Mario amiibo, Mario will obtain both the powers of the Super Star and Super Bell powerups. The duration of this power-up is limited, but you can scan the amiibo repeatedly to restore the special form once its duration is up.
