Obtaining Confuse Ray (TM017) in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

TM017 teaches the Ghost-type move Confuse Ray, which has 100 accuracy and inflicts confusion on your target. It’s a guaranteed way to confuse your opponent!

Before you can craft TM017 at the TM Machine, you’ll need to find it first. There are a couple of ways you can earn the rights to crafting TM017, and the main method is to defeat Team Star’s Dark Crew boss. The Dark Crew Base is located directly south of Cascarrafa, in the West Province.

Taking down the Dark Crew Base will automatically unlock TM017 Confuse Ray for you. If you don’t want to deal with Team Star, you can also find the TM out in the wild. Here are the locations.

The first location is located in South Province (Area One), near the southeast cliff facing the ocean. Go to the location indicated in the screenshot below, and you should see some old ruins with broken pillars out front. The yellow Poké Ball is inside the ruins.

  • 400 LP
  • Gastly Gas x 3
  • Mareep Wool x 3
