Catching Shiny Larvitar in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

First off, please note that Larvitar is exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet. Pokémon Violet players must either trade for a shiny Larvitar, join a friend who is playing Pokémon Scarlet through the Union Circle and catch one in their world, or catch one from a Tera Raid Battle.

If you’re going shiny hunting, make sure to check out our guide on how to hunt for shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, which covers some popular methods of increasing shiny spawns.

You can greatly boost your chances of encountering a shiny Pokémon by eating the appropriate sandwich. Larvitar is a dual-type Rock and Ground-type Pokémon, so here’s a guide on making Rock-boost sandwiches, and another on Ground-boost sandwiches.

Either sandwich works, so make whatever is easiest. Both recipes call for two Salty Herba Mysticas, which are found from 5-star and above Tera Raid Battles. You’ll need Jalapeño for the Rock-type sandwich, and Ham for the Ground-type sandwich. Both ingredients can be bought from the delis located in each major city.

Once your stomach is full and happy, it’s time to shiny hunt! Larvitar is a somewhat rare spawn, but with the power of the sandwich, you should have better luck finding one. You can find Larvitars in the following areas:

  • East Province (Area Three)
  • Dalizapa Passage
  • Casseroya Watchtower No. 1
  • South Province (Area Five)
  • South Province (Area Six)

Keep the shiny hunting guide’s tips in mind, and just keep wandering around any of the listed areas. Make sure your sandwich buff doesn’t run out—you can press right on the D-pad to see how much time you have left.

This is pretty much all you can do to have the best bet of encountering a shiny Larvitar. We hope this guide on how to catch a shiny Larvitar in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet helped, and if you have any other tips, please let us know in the comments below!
