Does Fortnite Have Skill-Based Match Making? – Explained

We talk about whether Fortnite uses skill-based matchmaking or not.

Skill-based matchmaking is a system that puts equally skilled players in a multiplayer match to make the game more balanced. While not initially, many players now hear that Fortnite also uses this skill-based matchmaking system, but many players don’t experience it when they play Squads. In the wake of that, players want to learn: does Fortnite have skill-based matchmaking?

Does Fortnite Have Skill-Based Match Making?

Yes! Fortnite has a skill-based matchmaking system in place for its Solo, Duos, and Trios game modes. Squad mode has no skill-based matchmaking and still relies on the old matchmaking style.

Initially, there was no skill-based matchmaking in Fortnite. But as soon as the game started expanding over platforms with “less competitive” players and the fact that the game was old enough and players’ skills had vastly improved, Epic Games moved their Arena skill-based matchmaking to the Core playlist.

And, as always, that brought in a lot of backlashes as players were unhappy about the skill-based matchmaking. But on the same note, many new players were happy with the new matchmaking system as it put them into bot lobbies that would get them easy Victory Royales.

So, to find a middle option, Epic Games removed the skill-based matchmaking from its Squads game mode and kept the system going for Solos, Duos, and Trios. This way, players who don’t like skill-based matchmaking can queue up in Squads mode.

Meanwhile, players who like skill-based matchmaking can queue up in Solos, Duos, or Trios game modes.

That is it. That concludes our guide as we have answered the question of whether Fortnite has skill-based matchmaking.
