Pokemon Legends Arceus is set in ancient times before the Sinnoh Region existed. Before it was Sinnoh, the land was called the Hisui Region and was not the bustling city you know today. The Hisui Region is Sinnoh at the point of discovery and when folk had just begun to settle there. This means there are some characters you may think are familiar, or remind you of someone from previous Pokemon games. This is no coincidence, these are in fact the ancestors of some of the characters you already know. Check out the full list below.
All Ancestor Characters in Pokemon Legends Arceus
Some of these are confirmed while others are speculation, but it is surely no surprise that many of the first settlers in the Hisui Region are the ancestors of those we known from today’s Pokemon games.
Commander Kamado
The commander was one of the first to be confirmed as an ancestor of Professor Rowan from Diamond and Pearl.
Both Rowan and Kamado are respected as stern but fair and trustworthy leaders. The commander is the leader of Galaxy Team, while Rowan is a professor in modern-day Sinnoh Region.
Captain Cyllene
The speculation is that Captain Cyllene is the ancestor of Boss Cyrus from Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl.
The speculation comes from the fact they look strikingly similar, and both have names that start with ‘Cy’. Surely not a coincidence? Captain Cyllene is the captain of the Survey Corps for Galaxy Team, while Cyrus is the Team Galactic boss.
Warden Arezu
Another speculative pairing is Warden Arezu and Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’s Commander Mars.
Just like with Cyrus and Cyllene, these two look too similar to not be related. Arezu is the warden of the Diamond Clan and Mars is a commander in Team Galactic and an antagonist in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Warden Mai
Warden Mai is said by many to possibly be the ancestor of Marley from Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
These two don’t just look alike but their names have a connection too. In Japanese, Marley’s name is ‘Mai’. Mai is a warden of the Diamond Clan, while Marley is not a huge character in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl but does feature a bit with an investigation.
Colza
It is only speculation but it may as well be confirmed, judging from their similar looks and connection to plants! It is said Colza is the ancestor of Gardenia.
These two have so many connections that there is little doubt they are related. Colza runs the farm at Jubilife Village, while Gardenia is Eterna’s Gym Leader and a grass-type Pokemon master. Colza in Japanese means rapeseed blossom, and Gardenia means a very similar thing! So not only do they look alike but their names are intrinsically linked too.
Pesselle
Pesselle is said to be the ancestor of Nurse Joy from previous Pokemon games.
These two have the same pink hair and very similar careers. Pesselle works as a medical facility researcher and Joy is a nurse. No doubt Pesselle was one of the original founders of the Pokemon Center where Joy now works. This is one connection that fans were particularly happy to notice!

Volo
Volo is thought to be the ancestor of Cynthia from Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
These two characters not only have very similar looks but they are similar in personality too. Both Volo and Cynthia love to learn and discover, with Volo exploring the Hisui Region, and cynthia delving into history and mythology. Not only that but they have pretty similar Pokemon as well! It is also rumoured that Cogita, who lives in a hut at the Ancient Retreat, could also be an ancestor to Cynthia as she shares her hairstyle and her love of mythology, as well as the elegant black outfits they like to wear.
Warden Lian
Apparently Warden Lian and Gym Leader Clay are related, as you could possibly tell from their stylish hats and grumpy frowns!
Warden Lian is said to be the ancestor of Gym Leader Clay and as you can see from their hats this is not a subtle connection. Clay is the gym leader from Unova Region in Pokemon Black and White (and Black and White 2), while Lian is the warden of the Pearl Clan. There is some speculation about why Lian would be wearing a cowboy hat when the American connection between lands had not yet been established. Maybe we will find out in due time!

Charm, Clover, and Coin
All six of these characters seem to have a connection or two, especially judging from their similar hair styles, faces, and their matching Pokemon.
Charm, Clover, and Coin are known in the Hisui Region as the Fortune Sisters- notorious bandits! Candice is a gym leader and Pokemon trainer from Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Saturn is a commander in Team Galactic. Clover and Candice both use ice-type Pokemon Abomasnow, Coin and Saturn both use Toxicroak, while Bertha uses Rhyperior and Charm uses Rhydon and Gengar. There are also similarities between Charm and Agatha who also uses Gengar. Those are enough similarities to link the three bandits to those other Pokemon characters who come from all over the Pokemon franchise.
It is pretty exciting for Pokemon fans to be making these connections between some of their favourite characters, and even to some that may have passed them by. We are sure there must be more to unearth as we all progress through Pokemon Legends Arceus and find out more about the rich history of this amazing world.
