Choosing the best equipment for your Sword Master Story characters can be quite challenging if you’re not sure what to look for. However, it won’t be all that easy to obtain the exact pieces you want every time, because the rewards you get are random. So, if you’re looking to learn what each equipment is best used on and how to better use them on your toons, you came to the right place.
I’ve checked every single piece of gear and done the maths to find out which is the perfect gear set for each class, so you don’t have to. Of course, it all depends on which heroes you got, and which equipment pieces you got. Therefore I am going to start with the best you could use at the beginning, mid, and eventually end-game.

Sword Master Story: The Best Equipment for Cain
Cain is the very first 5-star character you’ll have. He’s basically the hero you start with and the single unit that you simply cannot change on your team. Cain is best used as a Tank (front line) because he is quite tanky by default and can act as the ideal tank with his high default HP and DEF.
Furthermore, his skills help with the damage input, so all of these elements make Cain a very good and well-rounded character.
The best starter equipment set (1* – 2*):
In the beginning, until you manage to set up a team that is strong enough to burst down enemies in just a few seconds, you should look for the tankiest equipment. Either that, or if you have a good healer, you could go full DPS gear to make up for your team’s lack of damage.
– Iron Knight Set (1*):
2 Pieces: +10 DEF
3 Pieces: +20 DEF, +500 HP
5 Pieces: +1000 HP
– Red Knight’s Will Set (2*):
2 Pieces: +30 ATK
3 Pieces: +50 ATK
5 Pieces: +5% Crit Rate, +1000 HP
Either one of these two will work great because the character scales great with both damage and defensive stuff quite well (especially in the early game). You could also go for a mix of two sets, but in my opinion, the best would be if you get the full 5-set because the bonus is way better.
The best equipment mid-game (3* – 4*):
– Knight of Steel Set (3*):
2 Pieces: +60 DEF, +500 HP
3 Pieces: +1000 HP
5 Pieces: +3000 HP
– Death Knight Set (4*):
2 Pieces: +150 ATK
3 Pieces: +10% Crit Rate
5 Pieces: +150 ATK, +1500 HP
In my opinion the Knight of Steel set is the best in terms of tankiness, because it gives a total of 4500 HP and 60 DEF, but you could also work with just 3 pieces of Knight of Steel + 2 pieces of Death Knight if you don’t care much for Crit Rate and the rest.
However, if you want to go full damage on Cain, Death Knight set is the best one. the Legend of Atlantis set would be the follow-up, because that one relies mostly on Crit Rate, which I consider to be better on DPS characters.
The best equipment late-game (5*):
– Descendant of Kingdom Set (5*):
2 Pieces: +200 ATK, +15% DMG to normal monsters
3 Pieces: +400 ATK, +5000 HP
5 Pieces: +800 ATK, remove active skill initial cooldown, +30% HP
– Ancient Knowledge (5*):
2 Pieces: +200 ATK, +1000 HP
3 Pieces: +400 ATK, +50% DEF
5 Pieces: +800 ATK, +8000 HP
Both of these sets are amazing, so I found it quite difficult to choose a “best” between them. Try them both if you got them, and let me know which one you consider best!
Sword Master Story: The Best Equipment for DPS Heroes
When it comes to DPS characters, you want anything that scales well with their kit. For instance, if you got a DPS char which heavily relies on crits (such as Gaia), it’s best if you go for sets which help in that regard. As for flat ATK and Pen, it really depends on the case. Most often, flat ATK is great when you have characters like Odin and Dark, whose spells scale based on flat ATK.
As you might’ve noticed (or not, but it’s never too late), for most Archers, Crit Rate/ Crit Damage is the best choice – whereas, for Mages, flat ATK is key.
The best starter equipment set (1* – 2*):
– Hero’s Pledge Set (2*):
2 Pieces: +30 ATK
3 Pieces: +50 ATK
5 Pieces: +15% Crit Rate
– 3x Red Knight’s Will or Hero’s Pledge (2*) + 2x Hero’s Pledge or Aristocrat’s Dignity (2*):
2 Pieces: +30 ATK
3 Pieces: +50 ATK

2 Pieces: +30 ATK
The last option would be the best if you want a lot of flat ATK. Also, it’s pretty easy to complete that because you can use multiple sets to achieve those stats.
The best equipment mid-game (3* – 4*):
– Death Knight Set (4*):
2 Pieces: +150 ATK
3 Pieces: +10% Crit Rate
5 Pieces: +150 ATK, +1500 HP
– The Legend of Atlantis Set (4*):
2 Pieces: +150 ATK
3 Pieces: +12% Crit Rate
5 Pieces: +150 ATK, +15% Crit Rate
Both of these sets are great, so it’s really up to you which one you want to use. You also have the alternative (until you fully complete a certain set) to go for 3x Legend of Atlantis + 2x Death Knight, but the bonus for all the 5 pieces for both of these are way better than any mix-ups. So, I definitely recommend going for the full 5-piece set.
The best equipment late-game (5*):
– God of War Set (5*):
2 Pieces: +300 ATK, +10% ATK
3 Pieces: +400 ATK, +10% ATK
5 Pieces: +12% Penetration, +32% Crit Rate, +10% ATK
– Witch’s Lost Property Set (5*):
2 Pieces: +30% Penetration
3 Pieces: Damage-type active skill percent +50%
5 Pieces: Damage-type active skill percent +100%, Crit Rate +40%, DMG taken -10%
– White Dragon’s Blessing Set (5*):
2 Pieces: +20% ATK, +15% Crit Rate
3 Pieces: Additional DMG to Boss +100%
5 Pieces: +50% Crit DMG, DMG taken -10%
It’s quite difficult to stick to on single set in the end-game. While the White Dragon’s Blessing set is amazing for dealing with bosses, it’s not that great for grinding and passing the normal stages. So, you should always adjust them depending on the instance you’re trying to do.
Sword Master Story: The Best Equipment for Healers
When it comes to healers, you want equipment that will reduce their skills’ cooldowns and boosts their healing. Since their heals are mostly increased by flat ATK, you should look for gear that has ATK and some defensive stats.
The best starter equipment set (1* – 2*):
– Royal Knight Set (1*):
2 Pieces: +10 ATK
3 Pieces: +10 ATK, +500 HP
5 Pieces: +50 ATK
– 3x Red Knight’s Will or Hero’s Pledge (2*) + 2x Hero’s Pledge or Aristocrat’s Dignity (2*):
2 Pieces: +30 ATK
3 Pieces: +50 ATK

Although this is not a very defensive set, it will work great in the early game to keep your heroes alive for longer.
The best equipment mid-game (3* – 4*):
– Death Knight Set (4*):

5 Pieces: +150 ATK, +1500 HP
– The Legend of Atlantis Set (4*):
2 Pieces: +150 ATK

– Ice Dragon’s Blessing Set (4*):
2 Pieces: +120 ATK, Leaf hero’s DMG to Water enemy +20%

As I mentioned in the beginning, for increased healing you can use fat ATK. However, if you’re having difficulty keeping your healer alive (although I doubt it) you could go for the Knight of Steel set.
The best equipment late-game (5*):
– Ancient Guardian Set (5*):
2 Pieces: +50% Crit DMG, +50% Accuracy
3 Pieces: +35% ATK, +35% Crit Rate
5 Pieces: +40% Penetration, DMG taken -12%, remove active skill initial cooldown
– Ancient Knowledge (5*):
2 Pieces: +200 ATK, +1000 HP
3 Pieces: +400 ATK, +50% DEF
5 Pieces: +800 ATK, +8000 HP
– 3x Ancient Guardian (5*) + 2x Noble Belief (5*):
2 Pieces: Crit DMG +50%, Accuracy +50%
3 Pieces: ATK +35%, Crit Rate +35%

Sword Master Story: The Best Equipment for Warriors
Warriors are the second line of defense in a team, right next to Cain. They are great for buffing the team and increasing Cain’s defensive prowess, and boosting the entire team’s defenses against AoE attacks.
In my opinion you should try to build them around tanky equipment sets, as well as those which remove initial active skill cooldown.
The best starter equipment set (1* – 2*):
– Iron Knight Set (1*):
2 Pieces: +10 DEF
3 Pieces: +20 DEF, +500 HP
5 Pieces: +1000 HP
– Red Knight’s Will Set (2*):
2 Pieces: +30 ATK
3 Pieces: +50 ATK
5 Pieces: +5% Crit Rate, +1000 HP
The best equipment mid-game (3* – 4*):
– Knight of Steel Set (3*):
2 Pieces: +60 DEF, +500 HP
3 Pieces: +1000 HP
5 Pieces: +3000 HP
You could also go for sets which boost the ATK – it’s entirely up to you. Knights are going to shine especially in the late game though because early on everything will die way too fast anyway.
