Pokémon Legends: Arceus was released last month after much fanfare and hype. It is the latest installment in the Pokémon series and takes a much different turn than its predecessors do in terms of storytelling and game mechanics.
The game takes place in the ancient Hisui region, which would become modern-day Sinnoh. Fighting and capturing Pokémon is drastically different with battles taking place on the overworld instead of turn-based instance battles, as was the staple of the series thus far.
One drastic change which was a major departure from the staple of the series thus far is the fact that some Pokémon, which required to be traded to evolve in the older games, do not need to do that anymore.
Changes in Evolution
Since Generation 1’s games of Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow, certain Pokémon like Kadabra, Haunter, Machoke, and Graveler required the player to trade them with a friend to get them to evolve into Alakazam, Gengar, Machamp, and Golem respectively.
In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the trading feature to evolve Pokémon has been removed. With the more single-player focused approach of the game, the incentive to trade Pokémon to evolve them doesn’t exist. Instead, the game changes this feature into certain evolution items, like the Linking Cable.
How to get Linking Cable
The Linking Cable is an item in Pokémon Legends: Arceus that is used to evolve certain species of Pokémon that would have evolved purely via trading in the older games. In this game, however, acquiring and using the Linking Cable on those specific Pokémon will cause them to evolve!
To get the Linking Cable, the player will have to grab it from the Trading Post in Jubilife Village for 1,000 Merit Points and then make their Pokémon hold it. If the Pokémon is one of those specific trade-related Pokémon from the older games, the option to evolve them will pop up, and voila!
