First off, these malfunctioning vending machines are pretty easy to find in the game. They’re located at various POIs, and even at smaller areas. Malfunctioning vending machines provide players with an easy way to get higher-tier loot as long as you have enough gold bars to pay afterwards.

Malfunctioning vending machines have red lights on them which is a sign that says they’re malfunctioned and aren’t working like normal vending machines that have blue lights all over them.

Where to Find a Malfunctioning Vending Machine

There are two main areas you can check for malfunctioning vending machines, the Coney Crossroads and Sleepy Sound. Each of these locations has three vending machines that you can check for any of them that’s malfunctioning.

You can find the vending machines with your minimap by looking for the vending machines symbol, a tiny white rectangle. And once you get close enough to a vending machine in any of the locations, an interact symbol will pop up.

Since these malfunctioning vending machines spawn randomly, we advice starting from Coney Crossroads and preferably near the gas station and try your luck with any of the three vending machine spots in the area. If you can’t find any malfunctioning vending machine on there, then simply hop into a vehicle and drive to Sleepy Sound and check the three vending machines there as well.

It might take a couple of drives and a few tries, but you should eventually find a malfunctioning vending machine. The issue with malfunctioning vending machines is that they spawn randomly by taking the place of a normal working vending machine.

Once you’ve found one, you’ll need 10 gold bars to purchase a hunk of junk from the malfunctioning vending machine. Once you’ve done that, you’ll get a notification on the completion of the challenge and receive your bonus XP reward.
