Tower of Fantasy: Shield Breaking Explained

If you’ve been exploring the world of Aesperia for some time now, there’s no doubt that you’ve run into an enemy with a shield before. Only tough enemies seem to come with shields, and they can take much more punishment before going down.

Shielded enemies take 50% less damage from all sources. Big enemies will have one of two types of shields: elementless and physical shields. Here’s a quick rundown of how both types work.

Elementless shields appear as white barriers around enemies. As the name implies, they do not offer enemies any elemental resistance, so while they reduce physical damage, hitting their elemental weakness bypasses the damage resistance!

Physical shields are beefier shields that appear as green barriers. They’re much more durable than elementless shields, rendering physical attacks even more ineffective, and they even protect the enemy’s elemental weakness. Use elemental attacks to break these shields.

You can break elementless shields with any attack, while physical shields can be broken with elemental attacks. The shield gauge below the enemy’s health bar shows you much durability the shield has.

Once an enemy’s shield is broken, they will be stunned for a few seconds, and they’ll lose their 50% damage reduction. Unleash your hardest hitting abilities during this time, because their shields will recharge after a while!

In addition to physical and elemental attacks, each weapon has its own individual strengths. Every single weapon in the game has two attributes: shatter and charge, with each one ranked from C to S, with S being the best.

Shatter determines how effective a weapon is at breaking shields, while charge determines how fast a weapon gains its discharge attack. Weapons with S-rank shatter can chew through shields in an instant, while C-rank shatter weapons will have trouble breaking shields.

Needless to say, if you want to focus on breaking shields as fast as possible, make sure your weapons have high shatter ranks.

Later in your journey, you’ll encounter shields that block specific elements. For example, the Electroshield will resist volt attacks, so make sure to use a different element.

That concludes our guide on shield breaking in Tower of Fantasy. Shield breaking is the key to taking down the stronger enemies in the game, so it’s important to know how it works. If you have any other questions, let us know in the comments below!
