How Affinity Works in Monster Hunter Now

Affinity is a secondary stat that you may find on a few weapons in Monster Hunter Now. Affinity is effectively a weapon’s critical hit rate. The Affinity percentage represents your chance to land a critical hit, and critical hits deal 25% more damage.

As an example, let’s say a weapon has 5% Affinity on it. This means that all your attacks have a 5% chance to deal 25% more damage, indicated by bright yellow flashes. As you can see, Affinity can greatly boost your overall damage thanks to random critical hits.

However, some weapons can actually have negative Affinity, which unfortunately means exactly what you think—these weapons have a chance to deal 25% less damage. Thankfully, there are only a select weapons with negative Affinity, namely the Black Diablos line, and they sort of compensate with having higher base attack.

If you’re a veteran of the Monster Hunter series, then you’ll probably already know that this is exactly how affinity works in the main games, like Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise. Not many weapons are in Monster Hunter Now that have any affinity on them, so it’s something that you don’t have to worry about for some time.
