Enchantments are powerful boons that you can bestow upon your equipment with the aid of an Enchanting Table. There are many enchantments for weapons, tools, and armor, and knowing which ones do what is the key to success. We’ll be looking at the Smite enchantment today, to answer one question: what does the Smite enchantment do in Minecraft?
What does the Smite Enchantment do?
The Smite enchantment gives your weapon of choice bonus damage against undead mobs. Smite can only be applied to swords and axes. Additionally, Smite can be up to level V, and each level increases its damage dealt by 2.5. Here’s a list of mobs that count as undead:
- Zombie Villagers
- Wither Skeletons
- Zombified Piglins
- Skeleton Horses
- Zombie Horses
Smite is incompatible with the following enchantments: Sharpness, Cleaving, and Bane of Arthropods. If your sword or axe has any of those enchantments applied, Smite will overwrite them if you apply it.
Since quite a few hostile mobs in Minecraft are considered undead, Smite is a generally useful enchantment. A high-level Smite enchantment is particularly effective against the Wither, a dangerous undead boss mob.
