1. Utilize Overwatch!

Overwatch expends one AP from a unit and puts them into a “defense” mode. You point a direction for them to look out, and if an enemy comes into their view they will automatically fire at them. Overwatch is invaluable on levels where you need to survive or defend a specific point. Pay attention to your surroundings, as well. If you use overwatch in an open area enemies will easily weave around your line of sight. Instead, you should try to funnel enemies into a narrow passageway, like a hallway, and enemies will have no choice but to tackle you head on.

2. Study the abilities!

Each weapon has special abilities attached to them. They are not explained in full unless you take the time to go through your inventory and check the ability descriptions. For example, early on you might receive energy-based weapons. There’s an ability on these that make it so that the guns have a 15% chance to overheat when used, disabling you from firing it for the rest of that current turn. Before you deploy your team into battle, make sure you know what each of your weapons do!

3. Don’t be in melee range!

The most common enemy you’re going to fight is the Termagants. These swift, purple creatures will rush your units and attack them head on. Be aware of your positioning and do not let them get too close to you. If it’s your turn and you are right next to one, take a step back before you fire on them otherwise you might get counterattacked.

4. Watch yours and enemies’ AP!

Going off of that, it’s always good to keep an eye on your AP and your enemies’ AP. Take for example, you spot an enemy in the distance. You want to get up close, but be careful not to spend all of your AP just moving towards them. What will happen then is that you’ll end your turn right in front of the enemy, essentially priming yourself for an all-out assault. Remember that termagants only need one AP to perform their melee attack, so they could potentially attack up to four times in one turn if you’re not positioned correctly! Keep this in mind when you’re venturing into unknown territory – you might end up running straight into a horde of enemies!

5. Level up your stats!

This goes without saying but do not let your units fall in battle, as they’ll lose a lot of experience points. Experience points can be spent in two ways – either improve their base stats or unlock new abilities. We recommend upgrading your stats first as the XP cost to unlock new abilities is quite substantial. Giving your units more health will help you keep them alive better, reducing the risk of any accidental deaths.

That’s all for Deathwatch. If you have any other tips or strategies to share, leave a comment below!
