The Outer Worlds: Holographic Shroud Guide

Holographic Shroud is a gadget created by Phineas Welles, an important character whom you meet right at the start of the game. You will receive the Holographic Shroud while playing the Passage to Anywhere mission. This gadget creates a holographic image over you to create a disguise.

You don’t need to press any button to activate Holographic Shroud and use it. It starts working automatically when you are inside a restricted area. However, it will only do so if you have the required ID cartridge.

ID cartridges can be pretty hard to come by. Because of this, many players forget about Holographic Shroud and the amazing stealth gameplay The Outer Worlds can offer. Here are all the ID cartridges and where to find them.

How to Get Cartridges Needed to Use Holographic Shroud

Mardet ID Cartridge

Mardet ID Cartridge

Mardet ID Cartridge gives access to restricted areas on Groundbreaker. You can find it in these locations:

  • on a crate in Groundbreaker Docking Bays.
  •  on a crate near the Groundbreaker security’s main entrance
  •  on a shelf in the Groundbreaker security contraband hold
  •  on the bar in The Lost Hope
  •  on a cart next to the Restricted Access door in the Medical Bay.

SubLight ID Cartridge

SubLight ID Cartridge lets you access restricted areas in SubLight. The ID cartridge in Amber Heights is behind a locked door on the second-floor patio, while in Fallbrook, it can be found in Catherine Malin’s office, the bar, the Offices of the Greater Halcyon Insurance Group, the workshop next to the landing pad, and on a small desk in the office at the back of the workshop. In Stellar Bay, it is located on a large shipping container next to a bin on the docks.

Boarst Factory ID Cartridge

This cartridge is given to the player by Duncan Elley during the quest Slaughterhouse Clive and is also obtainable by pickpocketing or looting the Corporate Commander inside the C&P Boarst Factory. The cartridge can also be found in one of the employee bunk houses outside of the C&P Boarst Factory, either on a small bookshelf, in a locker, or on a bed.

UDL Identity Cartridge

In Byzantium, UDL Identity cartridge can be found in a locker in the locker room in the Ministry of Accuracy and Morale, behind a Lv. 30 locked door in the same building, or by looting Corporate Soldiers in the same area. It can also be found in a locker in the locker room in Maintenance Tunnels or on the ground behind a bench in front of the UDL building on the eastern side of the river.

On the HRS-1084, UDL Identity cartridge can be found on a chair in the kitchen. Finally, on The Hope, the cartridge can be found next to Quincy Duncan, in two rooms on the second floor, or in the cryo storage with the Mega sprat.

Labyrinth Security Personnel ID Cartridge

This ID cartridge can be used with the Holographic Shroud to access restricted areas on Tartarus. A Corporate Trooper on Tartarus gives it to the player after passing a 70 speech check (either Persuade, Lie or Intimidate).
