Terraria Classes Guide

Terraria does not have a formal player class or level system. However, weapons can be divided into four separate categories depending on the type of damage: melee, ranged, magical, and summoning. Each class has its own strengths and weaknesses, as well as a wide variety of weapons.

  • Close combat

The melee class is powerful, has high defense and damage, and decent crowd control. He uses weapons such as swords, spears, and yoyos. Many melee weapons have a short-range, and those that are effective at range tend to do less damage than their melee counterparts.

  • Distant battle

Rangers can attack from a distance, dealing high single-target, piercing, or splash damage. They use weapons such as bows and guns, as well as projectiles. Ranged users should constantly purchase ammo unless they are using Infinite Quiver or Infinite Musket Pouch. This can be done by crafting it or buying from an arms dealer.

  • Magic

Wizards are fragile but very varied in attack style, often using special mechanics such as homing, lifesteal, and area damage. They are held back by a dependence on mana, which regenerates very slowly unless a mana regen buff is in effect. Magic-users must create or buy mana potions if they want to restore mana instantly.

  • Summoner

Summoners are good at farming enemies, but most summoning armors have low defense and summons are often inaccurate against fast-moving enemies. Whips are a primary weapon that focuses on summoned units and increases their damage. While many players complete challenges that only allow summon damage (whips, weapon summons, and mounts), the summon class has been balanced around the idea that the player also uses the strongest normal weapons available to them in addition to minions and whips.
