What is the Pokémon Go Dragons Unleashed Global Challenge?

Pokémon Go is no stranger to limited-time seasonal events, but some of them also come with global challenges. As the name suggests, these challenges are massive tasks that require teamwork from every single Trainer across the globe.

Since we’re right in the middle of Pokémon Go‘s Lunar New Year event, February’s global challenge is titled “Dragons Unleashed”, and the challenge was to make a grand total of 1,000,000,000 Nice Pokéball throws.

We actually managed to complete the global challenge in an impressively fast time, which unlocked a variety of bonus rewards. On the main screen, you’ll notice three notification bubbles on the right side of the screen telling you about the bonuses. Unfortunately, the notifications are pretty vague, but we’ll fill you in with the details.

Keep in mind that the global challenge bonus rewards are only active until end of the Lunar New Year event, which means you have until Februrary 11, 2024, 8 PM local time to take advantage of them.

Global Challenge: All Bonus Wild Pokémon Encounters

For completing the global challenge, a set of semi-rare Pokémon are spawning in the wild at higher rates. All of the following Pokémon are appearing more often, alongside boosted shiny spawn rates, save for Falinks who doesn’t have a shiny form in the game yet.

  • Bagon
  • Gible
  • Darumaka
  • Axew
  • Deino
  • Tyrunt
  • Falinks

Global Challenge: All Bonus Raid Pokémon

In addition to the wild uncommon Pokémon, there are also rare Dragon-type Pokémon appearing in raids now. Jangmo-o can be found as a One-Star Raid, while the mighty Salamence is found in Three-Star Raids.

If you manage to take down Salamence in a Raid, you have a boosted chance of encountering a shiny version of it during the encounter phase. This is your chance if you’ve been looking for a shiny Salamence!

Global Challenge: All Pokémon Featured Attacks

During the reward phase, if you evolve specific Pokémon, they’ll end up with an exclusive charged attack that they don’t normally have access to, aptly named featured attacks. Here’s a complete list of the featured attacks for this global challenge.

  • Evolve Vibrava to get a Flygon with Earth Power (Ground).
  • Evolve Gabite to get a Garchomp with Earth Power.
  • Evolve Swablu to get an Altaria with Moonblast (Fairy).
  • Evolve Shelgon to get a Salamence with Outrage (Dragon).
  • Evolve Noibat to get a Noivern with Boomburst (Normal).

If any of these Pokémon catch your interest, act fast as we only have a few days before the Lunar New Year and global challenge events are over. If you have any other questions or tips, let us know in the comments below, and don’t forget to check out the rest of our Pokémon Go coverage.
