Indigo Lake Cranks Up the Scare Factor On iOS

This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

These days there’s no shortage of horror games available for PC and home consoles but one area the horror market has largely ignored is the iOS gaming scene. Developer 3Cubes Research is hoping to change all that though with their upcoming portable scare-inducer Indigo Lake; a psychological survival-horror title for iOS devices.

Originally slated for a July, 2013 release date under the title “The Woods”, the game was delayed by 3Cubes and reborn as Indigo Lake and is now set to be released at some point within the next few weeks (3Cubes couldn’t give a specific day but they have confirmed the release is imminent).

According to its official description, Indigo Lake puts the player into the role of a paranormal specialist agent who heads to the infamous lakeside campgrounds that share the game’s namesake in search of their friend Dr. Everett who failed to report in after being sent up to investigate a string of mysterious suicides. Once there, they must defend themselves from supernatural forces while solving puzzles and trying to uncover the mystery behind Indigo Lake.

The player uses their trusty handgun loaded with special “tracer” rounds to fight off the evil spirits and can even drive around in a 4X4 vehicle to easily traverse the game’s open world. Advanced lighting and anti-aliasing help to capture Indigo Lake’s spooky mood, offering an atmosphere that’s part Alan Wake, part F.E.A.R., and part Friday The 13th.

Indigo Lake will be available on both the iPhone and iPod and certain devices will even allow you to stream footage of your facial reactions to the game’s many jump scares so you can watch them later and laugh at yourself. Again, no confirmed release date has been set but those who want to give the game a try are encouraged to keep an eye on Indigo Lake’s Facebook page for the latest updates.
