Quite often during your campaign to unify China, you will have to defend your kingdom in Defensive Battles. Here’s everything you need to know to win these battles with ease.

How to Win Defensive Battles in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires

Defensive Battles in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires aren’t mandatory at all, as you can leave your armies the task of defending your territories while sacrificing some Defense Level points. If any territory’s Defense Points are depleted, however, they will fall to the enemy, so in this case, it’s always a good idea to intervene directly and take part in a Defensive Battle.

Defensive Battles work pretty much like Offensive Battles, as they can be won by defeating the enemy commander. To do so, you need to either conquer all weapon bases on the map or completely deplete the enemy forces as indicated on the bar to the top right of the screen. Once you do, you will trigger a Decisive Battle where you can take on the enemy commander.

Defensive Battles can also be won if your commander manages to stay alive for 15 minutes, which is considerably easier if you are the commander. While this is not exactly an optimal way to fight these battles, there will be times when you will be severely outmatched, and staying on the defensive will be the only option left to you.
