How to Upgrade Great Fairy Power in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

The beautiful and enchanting Great Fairies from Breath of the Wild return in Tears of the Kingdom, but this time they are a little shy. The Great Fairies must be coaxed out of their flower buds before they can enhance your armor like in the previous game, so here is how to upgrade Great Fairy power in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Upgrading the Great Fairies’ power in Tears of the Kingdom

Upon completing the side adventure “Serenade to a Great Fairy,” the first Great Fairy is unlocked. This side adventure starts out at Woodland Stable in Eldin, so go there if you have not completed it yet. Note that you may have to go to the Lucky Clover Gazette in Hebra first if you have not joined them as a reporter yet.

Completing this side quest unlocks the Great Fairy Fountain directly north of the Woodland Stable, but the Great Fairy Tera can only enhance your armor to 1-star on her own. She mentions that she needs the help of her three sisters, which begins the Stable Trotters’ quest to free all the Great Fairies.

The Stable Trotters’ side quest is a long and arduous journey to reunite all the Stable Trotters, as each Great Fairy responds positively to different instruments. To help you get started, all four Great Fairy Fountains are now marked on your Purah Pad map. You can find the Stable Trotters at the stables near the Great Fairy Fountains.

You will have to track down missing members of the Stable Trotters, but it is very much worth it to do so, as upgrading armor is crucial to your survival in Tears of the Kingdom. Enemies get stronger as you progress through the game, and if your armor is not up-to-date, you can get severely hurt!

With every Great Fairy you release from their flower bud, their collective upgrading power increases. To be specific, every Great Fairy awakened adds another potential star to your armor. You do not need to go to a specific Great Fairy, as they all share the same upgrade power.

• 1 Great Fairy awakened: Armor can be enhanced up to 1-star.
• 2 Great Fairies awakened: Armor can be enhanced up to 2-stars.
• 3 Great Fairies awakened: Armor can be enhanced up to 3-stars.
• 4 Great Fairies awakened: Armor can be enhanced up to 4-stars (max level).

Enhancing a piece of armor costs Rupees and some monster materials. If you cannot upgrade a piece of armor, be sure to keep track of what you need.

It is also worth mentioning that when you upgrade a complete set of armor to at least 2-stars, that set unlocks a special set bonus. These set bonuses can be quite powerful, so be sure to focus on your favorite armor sets first.
