Stardew Valley is primarily known as a farming simulator RPG, but it also offers the option to pursue romantic relationships with non-playable characters. In Pelican Town, players will meet a young lady named Penny, who is one of the twelve characters you can marry. She is a kind woman who teaches young kids in the town.
In this guide, we will help you learn how to marry Penny in Stardew Valley.
How to marry Penny in Stardew Valley
Pursuing a partner in Stardew Valley can be difficult if you don’t know what to do. First of all, you need to know more about the girl you want to marry. Penny lives with her mother, Pam, in the trailer located towards the north of Mayor’s Manor.
Stardew Valley features a friendship system where your character can interact with other NPCs to increase or decrease their friendship level. In the case of dateable NPCs like Penny, players need to reach level 10 friendship with her before they can ask her hand in marriage. Here’s how to get level 10 friendship and eventually marry Penny.
Increase friendship level with Penny
In Stardew Valley, friendship is improved by giving gifts and interacting with characters during special events. A character can receive gifts twice a week and on their birthdays. Penny’s birthday is Fall 2, and giving a gift to her on that day will give you more friendship points than usual. However, be careful while picking gifts and dialogues, as they can also lower the friendship level if you make the wrong choice.
Here are all the gifts you can give to Penny in Stardew Valley:
Loves (+ 80 friendship)
- All Universal Loves except Rabbit’s Foot
- Poppyseed Muffins
- Red Plate
- Roots Platter
- Tom Kha Soup

- All Eggs (except Void Egg)

Hates (-40 friendship)

Other than giving gifts, players can trigger events with Penny to increase friendship. Here are all the events with Penny to help you eventually marry her:
Two Hearts Event
Go to Pelican Town between 9am and 2pm to find Penny helping George Mullner, an old villager, get his mail. Unfortunately, George gets angry at Penny for doing so without his permission. You can select “I was. You did a kind thing there, Penny.” to gain 50 friendship.
Four Hearts Event
Visit Penny’s trailer when she’s home and help her clean the home. This event doesn’t affect your friendship.
Six Hearts Event
You will have to visit the trailer again when Penny is home for this event. She will ask you to try her new recipe. While it doesn’t taste good, you can lie to her and say it was delicious to gain 50 friendship points.
Eight Hearts Event
Go to Cindersap Forest between 9am and 4pm, when Penny is on a field trip with Jas and Vincent. Agree to become a guest speaker to gain 10 friendship points. After talking with the kids, Penny will later ask you about your views on becoming a parent. You can select “Absolutely. I want a big family.” or “I guess so. It’s a natural urge.” to get 20 friendship points.
After reaching 8 hearts with Penny, you are ready to start dating her. You will soon get a letter from Pierre about his shop’s new item, a bouquet, which can be given to any dateable character with 8 hearts. You can give it to Penny to ask her out, to which she’ll happily agree, and her status will change to “Girlfriend”.
Then, all you have to do is get your friendship with Penny to 10 hearts. After your friendship reaches 10 hearts, you can purchase a Mermaid’s Pendant from the Old Mariner. He can be found on the beach during rainy days. Present the pendent to Penny to ask her for marriage. That’s it! Your wedding will take place in three days, after which Penny will move into your house.
