How to Get a Shiny Unown in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Pokémon Legends: Arceus was released last month after much fanfare and hype. It is the latest instalment in the Pokémon series and takes a much different turn than its predecessors do in terms of storytelling and game mechanics.

The game takes place in the ancient Hisui region, which would become modern-day Sinnoh eventually. Fighting and capturing Pokémon is drastically different with battles taking place on the overworld instead of turn-based instance battles as was the staple of the series thus far.

Shiny Pokémon make their return in Pokémon Legends: Arceus and today we will be talking about Unown and how to acquire its Shiny counterpart!

What is Unown?

Unown is a Pokémon introduced in Generation 2’s games of Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal. It is a unique Pokémon that symbolizes every letter of the alphabet, making it have over 26 different forms based on which ones the player encounters.

Unown is a Psychic-type Pokémon that plays very differently from most other Pokémon. The move Hidden Power was initially introduced through Unown and it unleashes a Pokémon’s hidden potential type through the attack. With Unown having over 26 forms, each form’s Hidden Power type is different from the other and that adds a lot of variety and type coverage to battles!

Having so much variance on the player’s team makes Unown a highly coveted Pokémon, but can it also be Shiny?

Shiny Unown and How to Get it

Just like any non-legendary Pokémon in Legends: Arceus, Unown can be Shiny and can be acquired through certain means.

First off, finding Unown is different compared to finding other Pokémon in the wild. Unlike most Pokémon, Unown spawns are fixed and each type can only be found in certain areas of the overworld.

With Unowns being static encounters on the overworld, the player will have to capture all of them first as part of the Pokedex research quest. This will allow access to more Unown of every type in the Solaceon Ruins. The caveat here is that these encounters can lead the player to run into Alpha and Shiny versions! Good luck Shiny hunting!
