Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX

How to Generate Monsters in Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX

While somewhat inspired by the Pokemon series, the Monster Rancher series tried to do things quite differently when it comes to several gameplay mechanics, including the most important of them all: getting monsters.

While the jump to Nintendo Switch has made it impossible for both games to retain the classic monster generation system, Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX still goes a long way to make getting monsters feel unique and rewarding.

Here’s how to generate monsters in both games and how to get access to rare, powerful monsters.

Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX

Generating monsters in the original Monster Rancher 1 and 2 required you to actually put a music CD in the PlayStation console, but this is obviously not possible on Nintendo Switch as the console has no CD reader. Thus, the developer was forced to slightly alter the monster generating mechanics in Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX.

To generate a monster in both games, all you need to do is head over to the Shrine and input the name of a song or of an artist to get a list from which you can pick. Names have to be written correctly in order for the artists or the song to come up, so make a quick online search in case the artist or the song you have chosen doesn’t show up.

Alternatively, if you do not want to deal with this system, you can get some starting monsters by purchasing them from the market. The available starting choices in both games are all solid enough, so pick whichever monster you like best.

How to Generate Rare Monsters in Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX

While the monster generating system allows you to generate any monster you want with the right CD, Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX doesn’t allow you to get rare monsters until you have fulfilled some conditions. Some monsters can only be generated if you have certain items in your possession, while others require you to have reached a certain Breeder rank or to have a certain Breed unlocked. Just continue playing the game, train the strongest monsters in your possession and compete in tournaments, and you will soon be able to generate that elusive monster you have been seeking to get since you have started the adventure!
