Like many other new titles, Modern Warfare 2 isn’t without its launch issues. From campaign mode crashing to performance issues and a bunch of other bugs that make the entire experience less pleasant. And although the developers are working on fixing a number of these issues, there’s no official way to fix the campaign mode crashing issue just yet. So below are some ways you can try to fix it yourself.

Updating Your Graphics Driver

Be sure your graphics card driver is up to date and you have all the necessary and latest versions of Visual C++ Redistributable files and Direct X installed. Not having these files or their updated versions could lead to crashes or black screen in the game.

Verify the Integrity of the Game Files

Players can try verifying the game file regardless of where they’ve downloaded it. Be it via Steam or Battle.Net, verifying the integrity of the game files might repair and fix any crash-related issues:

For PC users, open Steam, go to your game Library. Right-click on Modern Warfare 2 and click on Properties. Then navigate to the Local Files tab and click on “Verify integrity of game files.” Allow the process complete, afterwards, you’ll know if there are any broken files. And if any file is broken, you’ll need to re-download the entire game.

To verify the game files with Battle.Net, open Battle.Net > Games > Modern Warfare 2. Then click the cogwheel next to the Play button and select Scan and Repair. Select Begin Scan and allow the process complete. And if you notice a missing broken file, you’ll have to redownload the game as well.

Updating the Game

Infinity Ward is updating the game often, so it’ll help you keep up with the update process and always be sure to have the latest update installed. New updates usually come with patches to fix crashes and remove bugs, so always make sure you’re playing the updated version.

Finally, if none of the above works for you in stopping COD MW2 campaign from crashing, you can reach out to the developers and try to stay up to date with the game’s official social platforms and be aware of any patch updates to fix the campaign crashing issue.
