Magmar’s method evolution has changed just slightly from the mainline games that came before Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but probably not in the way you suspect. In earlier games, Magmar would need the hold the Magmarizer while being traded to another player for it to evolve into Magmortar. You would then need to have it traded back to you if you want to use it, of course.

In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, trade evolutions are a thing of the past (or should we say future?) Hence, Magmar the trading aspect of Magmar’s evolution process has been scrapped; this means that you will simply need to use a Magmarizer on your Magmar to evolve it into Magmortar, just as you would use an evolution stone on an appropriate Pokemon.
Where to Find the Magmarizer in Pokemon Legends: Arceus?
The simplest way to obtain the Magmarizer is by heading to Jubilife Village and engaging with the Trading Post. You can exchange the Magmarizer for a measly 1,000 Merit Points, which if you’ve done a bit of Satchel-hunting, should be a piece of cake for you.
Alternatively, you can visit the Gingko Guild Shop also in Jubilife Village and have a randomized chance to buy the Magmarizer, which is referred to as the Magma Box by Ginter, for 10,000 PokeDollars.
Lastly, and unfortunately the least, are the methods of using Space-Time Distortions and Ursaluna. There is a low, randomized chance you will come across a Magmarizer through either of these methods, which make them inferior to the previously-mentioned methods.
