The Kadabra line is one of the most classic psychic-type families in Pokemon. It is a powerful battler who will carry you well through your journey in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl. Evolving it to its final form Alakazam takes a little bit of effort, but it’s a simple process nonetheless.

How To Get Abra
The first step here is to catch an Abra, Kadabra’s first form. You can either get one as a spawn in the underground, or you can trade with a trainer in Oreburgh City. The trainer is inside the second building with six windows where you arrive in Oreburgh City from the western entrance. They will ask you for a Machop in exchange for an Abra. Train your Abra to level 16, where it will evolve into a Kadabra.
How To Evolve Kadabra
In some cases, you might want to wait to evolve a Pokemon with an out-of-the-box evolution pattern since they sometimes learn specific moves in one form that they don’t in the final one. However, Kadabra and Alakazam learn the exact same moves, so that’s not necessary here; you can evolve it right at level 16. In fact, you should if possible, as Alakazam has very powerful stats.
To actually evolve Kadabra, you need to formally trade it with another Pokemon player who has a copy of the game along with Nintendo Switch Online unless you are doing local play. Make sure to do it with a friend so that you know they’ll send it back. Kadabra will evolve with the friend immediately upon arrival, and when it is returned to you, you’ll have a brand new Alakazam that is ready to destroy every fighting type Pokemon in its path.
