Among the Pokemon that are able to evolve in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but couldn’t in previous entries in the series, is Basculin, who can now turn into the more fearsome-looking Basculegion.

Here’s how to evolve Basculin, and why you should look into doing so as quickly as possible.

How to Evolve Basculin in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Basculin’s evolution, Basculegion, is given to you for free at some point in the story, but you cannot use it to fight enemies, as you can only ride it to traverse bodies of water. If you want a Basculegion capable of fighting, you will have to evolve a Basculin.

Basculin is pretty easy to find, as you can find it in the waters located in the Cobalt Coastlands, Alabaster Icelands, and Coronet Highlands. Once you catch one, add it to your party, as Basculin can only evolve once a certain condition has been met in battle.

To evolve Basculin into Basculegion, the Pokemon has to receive 300 recoil damage in combat without fainting. If the Pokemon faints, the count will restart, and you will have to accumulate 300 points of damage again. You can also heal the Pokemon without resetting the count, so make sure to do so to avoid fainting and having to do everything from the start. Once the condition has been met, the option to evolve Basculin will become available in the Party Menu.

Basculegion is a very unique Water / Ghost-type Pokemon, so it is capable of taking on typings that regular Water and Ghost Pokemon cannot. As such, you will want to add Basculegion to your party as soon as possible to have an easier time overcoming some of the challenges you will encounter in the Hisui region.
