Guide to Escaping with your Loot in Dark and Darker
Dark and Darker is part first-person action and part battle royale, so of course it has the “shrinking safe zone” mechanic you’re probably familiar with. Always make your way to the highlighted safe zone on your map, and have an exit plan if things go south.
About ten minutes into the match, the safe zone gets smaller and centers around one area of the map. It’s around this time that blue Escape Portals begin to spawn somewhere in the safe zone, so keep an eye out if you want to get out.

The Escape Portals look like small blue pillars. Walk up to them and press your interact button to start summoning an Escape Portal. The summoning process takes a while, so be sure to clear the area first and watch out for other players!
Once the summoning has finished, a glowing blue portal will appear on top of the pillar, like the one seen in the image at the top of this article. These Escape Portals are only good for a certain amount of people, and once the cap is hit, they will immediately disappear.
You’ll need to be careful about enemy players trying to pull sneaky stuff. If an enemy player catches wind of you summoning a portal, they might attack you as soon as you’re done summoning, so they can take the portal for themselves. Be vigilant!
Once you’ve summoned an Escape Portal, jump in as quickly as you can. If you’re successful, you’ll escape the dungeons, and you’ll keep anything you had equipped and in your inventory. Sell all that shiny loot for gold and buy new gear to prep for the next match!
