Just like Bloodborne, Demon’s Souls, Sekiro and the Dark Souls series, Elden Ring was directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki. The caveat here is that the game was made in collaboration with the award-winning fantasy novelist and source material creator for the highly popular Game of Thrones television show, George R. R. Martin, who provided a lot of source material for the game’s setting.

Elden Ring was released for Microsoft Windows, Steam Deck, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on February 25, 2022.

The Soulsborne games are known for their difficulty level and Elden Ring is no less. The biggest difficulty spikes come in terms of their bosses. Today we will be talking about one of those bosses, namely Margit the Fell Omen.

Margit the Fell Omen

Margit the Fell Omen is the first big wall that players will generally come across in Elden Ring. This boss will test players’ endurance and patience in Elden Ring.

Margit is a guardian of Stormveil Castle who wields a staff in battle. He might not be as dangerous as some of the later bosses or have the power of demigods, but he still poses a massive threat, more so to newer players.

But how does one beat him?

Margit Strategy

Margit can be quite daunting for new players. For best results, we suggest players upgrade their weapons to at least +3. Here’s some information that might help. He has a few attacks that can be predicted:

  • Combo Attack – Three quick hits with his staff.
  • Strong Strike – One strong attack, parryable.
  • Holy Blade – Blade strike after a staff combo.
  • Leaping Strike – Attacks from above with a strong strike.
  • Blade Toss – Tosses blades that do holy damage if out of range.

Phase 2

Most bosses in Soulsborne games have a phase 2 that kicks in once their HP drops below 50%. Margit the Fell Omen has a few notable changes when this happens:

  • Strong Strike (Hammer) – The same strong strike, but with a hammer instead. Stronger attack with a wider arc in front of it.
  • Leaping Strike (Hammer) – An upgraded leaping strike with a hammer. Again, more damage with a greater AoE.

One thing that can be a major help is a staple feature of Soulsborne games, that is, summoning other players as well as NPC’s. In this fight, Wolf Pack and Sorcerer Rogier can be summoned to make this fight easier. Wolf Pack helps a lot with the overall offensive potential in this fight. While not that great in the damage department, Sorcerer Rogier can definitely take the pressure and aggro off the player in times of need.

Another thing that can make the fight easier is acquiring Margit’s Shackle from Patches (after sparing him). Using this item will freeze Margit in place for a few seconds. This item can only be used twice in this battle and only during Margit’s First Phase.

Beating Margit will take some time and practice but it is definitely worth it. Upon defeat, he drops 9,000 Runes and allows access to Stormveil Castle.
