As you proceed through the expansion, and design more vacation homes, you unlock additional Design Skills that let you create more complex homes that will make even the more demanding client happy.

Like for the other Design Skills in Animal Crossing: New Horizons Happy Home Paradise, you will have to make progress in the expansion to be able to create and use Pillars. After you are done designing your vacation home number 15 and head back to the Paradise Planning office, Lottie will tell you that Niko wants to speak with you. Head to the second floor of the office to talk with him to learn that he wants you to teach him everything you know about DIY Recipes.
After doing this, Niko will bring you to the school the following day to teach you how to make pillars, how to use them, and how DIY Recipes can be used to improve vacation homes.
After this is done, you will finally be able to use pillars for your creations. All you need to do is press the down directional button while designing homes, or modifying your own, and then select the Other category to use them
